Separate file size from image dimensions
Byte size describes the file on disk; width and height describe the pixel grid. Two images with identical dimensions can have very different byte sizes because their contents and encoding differ. The report includes stored dimensions from the file header and displayed dimensions after the browser applies supported orientation information.
Use a checksum to compare exact copies
SHA-256 summarizes the original file bytes. Matching hashes are useful when checking whether two downloads are the same file. A visually identical re-encoded image can have a different hash, as can a file whose metadata alone changed. The hash is calculated locally. This tool does not list every EXIF tag or certify the origin, authorship or authenticity of an image.
File support and export limits
Accepts one static JPG, PNG or WebP up to 25MB and 40 million pixels. The original file is read without resizing or modifying it. The output is a JSON report, not a converted image. Read the image export guide.
Does a matching hash mean the images look similar?
It is a check of the file bytes, not a visual similarity score. Use Compare two images to inspect visible differences.
Does inspecting a file modify it?
No. It reads the original and creates a separate JSON report. No image conversion is performed.
